I was listening to this week's NPR Pop Culture podcast when a feature on the recently deceased Richard Pryor came up. It was extremely interesting and I recommend you listen to it.

Anyways, during the retrospective they glossed over how Pryor accidently set himself on fire while freebasing cocaine, hospitalizing himself. How the hell does one set them-self on fire while smoking crack? Well... here's how:

In June of 1980, Pryor was regularly smoking cocaine from his personal pocket pipe, causing (among other things) an irregular heartbeat, hallucinations, and paranoia. Sometimes he'd go chasing the dragon - heating up cocaine on a piece of tinfoil and inhaling the vapor. In a state of dementia and misguided suicidal despair, he doused his body with cognac and lit himself on fire. The result? Third-degree burns over fifty percent of his body.
